Excess fluid in the body causes difficulty breathing, chest pain, edema, and high blood pressure. You may advice to limit your fluid intake.
If you are retaining fluids, you may need to limit liquid intake to 6-8 cups of fluid a day. Measure any liquid or any food that melts in your mouth like ice cream, ice, jelly, pudding, broth, coffee, tea, milk.
Your dietitian can share tips on how to control thirst and dry mouth.
Avoid salty foods, as these increase thirst.
If the mouth gets dry, chewing gum or sucking on some hard candies can be tried.
Small cups should be used for drinking.
Drinking in small sips helps drinking less water.
