High levels of phosphorus weaken your bones and can cause them to break easily.
Control phosphorus by:
Avoiding high phosphorus foods.
Take phosphate binders as prescribed by your doctor.
Phosphorus is a mineral found in all foods. Large amounts of phosphorus are found in:
Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt etc.
Shellfish, seafood, meat, poultry, eggs, liver and other organ meats.
Nuts & oilseeds.
Dried beans and peas such as kidney beans, split beans and lentils.
Cola, beer.
To keep blood phosphorus at safe levels, phosphorus rich foods should be limited and phosphate binders should be used with meals.
